With the thought that my way forward might lie through the bugs I’m encountering, I’ve managed to get past the conflict between mhwd-nvidia-304xx-etc. & mhwd-nvidia-legacy by
sudo pacman -Rdd mhwd-nvidia-legacy
But when I try to update pacman & manjaro-system:
[code][bug@###### var]$ sudo pacman -Syy pacman manjaro-system

Also are you sure your using the 2015.09 iso?
The fact that you had nvidia-legacy and a duplicate bash leads me to believe that you may have somehow ended up downloading and installing your system with the 2014.09 ISO by mistake. The nvidia-legacy package was not on the 2015.09 ISO or installed system since it was removed almost a year ago. The bash issue was a fix around that same time due to shellshock and shouldn’t be giving you this duplicate error.
Reality-check: what KDE desktop should I be seeing under 2015.09 – Plasma 5.3 or KDE 4.14? I ask because I’m currently under KDE 4.14, which is what I managed to get after installing.
When I get home I’ll D/L using the “server” link, re-burn and reinstall.
Ach, then that’s the cause – the “2015.09” ISO I D/L’ed was some older ISO. Dang, OK – what’s the link I should use to get the latest & greatest 2015.09 ISO? And I assume I should nuke my ~/.kde/ folder and format my / partition when I re-install?
Not sure but I think the ISO I originally downloaded from the McLean mirror in Virginia might have been the older 2014.9 ISO. I’ve got the 2015.09 ISO on DVD now. Still having problems getting to a usable desktop, either via the Nouveau or nVidia drivers. I’ll have time to make a concerted effort this Saturday.
OK, I’m back at the start – I’ve got my system installed, I can boot to a DM, I can log in, but then the system freezes as soon as it displays the desktop and I don’t even get the usual Plasma desktop loading animation. I’ve gotten here by installing using both the free & non-free drivers.
When I switch to TTY2 I keep seeing some continual & inscrutable error like so:
[ time sig] nouveau E[Xorg[880]] nv50cal_space: -16
It repeats that for maybe a minute and finally locks up.
I’ve been careful to ensure that while I’m not formatting my /home partition there’s at least no .kde4 folder that needs to be migrated. Any hints?
OK, I get almost exactly the same response – frozen desktop background graphic and no progress. I can’t even Ctrl-Alt to one of the console TTYs, so I’m not able to report on any error messages.
OK, booted back into the live DVD with non-free drivers, this time chose to install and reformat all my partitions. Looks like I’ve got a full Plasma 5.4.1 desktop and so far no issues. Looking forward to never having to endure another distribution release again. Thanks very much for your patient assistance!
I’m sorry for don’t answer before . I was using the 14 and everything was OK . But today I made the new ISO’s download and the instalation was perfect ; it wasn’t necessary any change - Calamares worked perfectly . So perfectly that , after the instalation , it was not necessary any update .
Now I need know better this thing .
