i have burnt the iso to a dvd and now it boots but then crashes and gets stuck on the grub menu.

More details, please. What hardware you have there?
I had problems installing (X)ubuntu 12.10, which has the same Linux kernel and basic drivers as Netrunner 12.12, on Asus Aspire 1410. Some other people had issues installing latest Ubuntu as well. Check this threat on Ubuntu Forums (Netrunner is based around Ubuntu guts):
