[SOLVED] Video problems after update

Hi!

After updating my screen is now being drawn from top to bottom (on both my computers) when opening new windows, and 3D effects got disabled…

My graphic cards are Intel Core i5/7

Intel Core i5/7 is the processor. Do you have any more detailed information ?
Intel HD3000 or HD4000 or HD4400 ?

If the terminal or tty (Ctrl+Alt+F1) is working you can get more information about the card by executing

lspci | grep -i VGA

$ lspci | grep -i VGA
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 3rd Gen Core processor Graphics Controller (rev 09)

So it’s an Intel HD4000. Hmmm I have the same card and experienced no problem with it so far.
Let me try reinstalling and updating to see if I can reproduce it.

Hmm… I was just now fiddling with the desktop effects settings to see if there was something wrong there, and it says KDE is running in security mode… could that be why?

Ah might be that failsafe mode is set in the login manager. Can you logout and choose the normal kde plasma session instead of the failsafe one.

That solved the KDE safe mode issue, but not the video issue :slight_smile:

I’m just looking at the Arch Wiki - do I need this: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/VA-API

The problem got solved now after a reboot! Somehow restarting X was not enough.

Nice. Can you edit the title of the original post above and add [solved] tag to it.
