I am doing a fresh install from the Netrunner Rolling 2015.11-64-bit ISO with a fresh user home directory to overcome some problems with Firefox dialogs.

During the update from ISO to a current setup, there were a few questions requiring a “yes/no” response. Most of them had a default of “yes” indicated by [Y/n] but one question did not:

:: kdebase-lib and kde-templates are in conflict. Remove kde-templates? [y/N] y

to which I answered “yes” as for previous questions.

Is this the correct response or should one always select the default response, whatever it is?

I ask because the nuances of the upgrade are unknown to me and the default might be the choice we are meant to make. If this is not true, perhaps, the default option could be made “yes” uniformly for all questions.

Since my system is just being set up, I await the answer to this in case I have to do a re-install because of a wrong choice!

Thank you.

Oops! I seem to have hit an error here. After the download of 751 packages, I got this message that has stymied my upgrade. Kindly suggest a workaround.

code checking keys in keyring [###########################################] 100%

downloading required keys…
error: key “9BDCF497A4BBCC7F” could not be looked up remotely
error: required key missing from keyring
error: failed to commit transaction (unexpected error)
Errors occurred, no packages were upgraded.[/code]
Thanks.

I think I have found the answers to both my issues:

  1. Answering “no” to the question with default answer “no” arrests the upgrade.

  2. The error message went away after I did

sudo pacman -S archlinux-keyring

followed by:

sudo pacman -Syyu

Thanks for a system that upgraded gracefully without leaving me stranded.

That sometimes happens with the keys.
Yes you should almost always answer YES to these kinds of prompts.
That one was a due to kde-templates being incorporated into kdebase-lib upstream.
