The routine for selecting which wireless network to use is clumsy and not self-explaining. Nor does it seem allow the use of hidden networks.
The new KDE plasma NetworkManager applet was redesigned upstream, to connect to a hidden network you’ll need to click on the wrench in the right corner to open connection editor, then just click add > wireless and type in the information needed.
