Auto-Mounting an Ipod in Netrunner 13.12

Can anybody help me out. Im fairly new at this but I cannot get my ipod touch to mount and I dont really know where to start.

Did you try starting clementine and see if it detected the ipod ?
If this doesn’t you could try out the gpodder software you can find in the software center

Hello leszek,

Thankyou for responding. Im not sure what is going wrong. I have installed Netrunner 13.12 on two computers and niether can mount an ipod corectly from a standard install, even after all updates completed.

My sons is running Ubuntu 14.04 and when he plugs the ipod in it logs it as an ipod and when he opens file manager he gets two partions named as in the ipod with full control with clementine, gtkpod as well as full access in filemanager. His file manager logs the two partions into devices in the side panel and is all fully accessable.

When I plug the ipod into either netrunner machines that i have running, it logs the ipod as a “media player” and when you open dolphin its says it is “camera:” in the address bar. It doesnt appear in the devices and is not accessible via any progams.

When I run lsusb from the terminal before I plug the ipod in, I get :-

greg@GregsMachine:~$ lsusb

To me this means it is recognising it logged at the usb stage so Im not sure how I only get a media player come up when it knows it is an ipod at plug in stage.

When I run dmesg I get 1348 entries scrolling down the screen and in the middle at line 489 I get the ipod identifying itself but it doesnt appear to connect for use in the desktop.

Im not sure what else to say.

Thank you for any help you may be able to provide.

So it revisters itself as mtp or pptp device which means the device manager in the tray should be able to open up the device. Maybe you have two entries there one for camera:/ opening up and another one usi g mtp:/ protocol. Try both if them and hit F5 when the file browser opens up. It should show you the files

Im dont know what you mean when you say; “So it revisters itself as mtp or pptp device” How can I check that?

When it opens in dolphin from the device manager tray it comes up with the address “camera:” in the address bar. Yes the device manager in the tray should be able to open up the device and it seem to try in dolphin, but no matter how many times, I refresh it, it does not appear as a connectable device in the devices column.

You stated “Maybe you have two entries there one for camera:/ opening up and another one using mtp:/ protocol.” I dont understand this so or where these entries may be, how would I check this out?

First make sure you have the package kio-mtp installed. This one is for the mtp connection.
It will show a Open in Filebrowser entry in the device manager when you plug in a mtp device. If it doesn’t please relogin after installation of this package.
If the device still does not show up then it isn’t supported by libmtp or the version Netrunner ships it.
Alternatives like mtpfs (an terminal mounting app for mtp devices) or go-mtpfs might help then to get access to the IPod.

The camera:/ protocol is an older version on which mtp is based on and not always is able to display content of an mtp device. So please use the above suggestion
