Broadcom and total lack of wifi

I have had a quick look through and can not find anything on broadcom and wifi .
I am currently having terrible trouble with the wifi on my Toshiba Satellite.
It will not connect up, and I have tried all the usual trial and error stuff with the last distro I had installed, that to was a Ubuntu derivative.
so I wonder if you have any thoughts on wifi instalment or at any rate some solid information that will get the wifi up and running :exclamation: hope someone can help regards phil

When it comes to broadcom the best solution if possible is buying a wifi card with atheros chip (ath9k or ath5).

Did you take a look here already? https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs/Driver/bcm43xx

The problem is that I have gone round and round in circles.
I have tried most of what’s on offer and it still does not work.
I is getting to the point where as much as I like netrunner (just for connectivity sake) I will have to migrate back to windows.
As for the idea of changing wireless cards I do not think that’s a flyer.
the only way out I can see is a dongle which is a work round but not a solution.
thanks for your help
regards phil

The Broadcom Corporation BCM43142 chipset requires a recent version of the braodcom wl (STA) drivers to function.
Connect to the internet via ethernet and then install using the driver manager

I think the driver is too old in Ubuntu 14 to support this card correctly with this driver.
