Cannot get the desktop up after reboot

So yesterday while I was working something happened and the OS froze. I could see my windows and desktop but nothing was responding, so I turned the PC off and tried to boot back up.

The boot goes up to the Netrunner logo then halts there. I can’t switch to a console with ctrl-alt-F1-F6, and I seem to have no options to troubleshoot what just happened.

Any ideas?

Does this happen on every boot?
Did you try the safeboot option in the grub bootmenu already?

Can you access the logs via a live system and take a look in /var/log to see if there is something useful in syslog boot.log or Xorg.0.log if all else fails
