Canon MF4770 n ImageCLASS NO DRIVER?

Your welcome, could you please mark this thread as solved.

Thanks.

I’m glad I didn’t mark resolved…

I didn’t check the scanner before as I was so happy it was printing!
But I cannot scan a document. Skanlite says no drivers available.
The sane system could not find any device.

Now what?

I have 2 days left where I can return this printer should it not work.
Today and tomorrow. that’s it. I would really like to keep it. Can you
help me get the scanner working?

Scanners usually take a little bit more configuring than printers.

Make sure you have sane installed: apt-get install libsane sane sane-utils libsane-extras
then make sure the printer is in scan mode (scan button is pressed)

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2156681

PS. If you still can’t see your scanner then follow this guide:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/sane

I have all the files installed and printer set to scan. It asks me to connect computer. I don’t know how.

The usb cable is connected. I tried both Simple Scan and Skanlite. Neither find any scanner.
I also pasted this into the terminal and no scanners found.
sane-find-scanner

What next? If I don’t get this running right now. I have to take it back to the store

EDIT:
Well, I ended up taking my printer back to Staples and explained the situation. They actually
wrote on my receipt that they are giving me one more week to get this working. If not, then I can feel
free to return for exchange.

Here is what I get when searching for scanner:

:~$ sane-find-scanner

sane-find-scanner will now attempt to detect your scanner. If the

result is different from what you expected, first make sure your

scanner is powered up and properly connected to your computer.

No SCSI scanners found. If you expected something different, make sure that

you have loaded a kernel SCSI driver for your SCSI adapter.

No USB scanners found. If you expected something different, make sure that

you have loaded a kernel driver for your USB host controller and have setup

the USB system correctly. See man sane-usb for details.

Not checking for parallel port scanners.

Most Scanners connected to the parallel port or other proprietary ports

can’t be detected by this program.

You may want to run this program as root to find all devices. Once you

found the scanner devices, be sure to adjust access permissions as

necessary.

If you do need to get a different printer, I would suggest getting an HP or Brother, these two company directly offer support for Linux.

I went to staples today to check out other printers and
i didn’t really like anything else they had. I buy from Staples
cause I get discounts. But I really like this Canon printer.
so I would really like to find a way to get it to work.
Hp printers are now JUNK unless you spend 600 or more!
Two Brother printers they had that I liked had issues and
I consider that a sign. So I told the guy I would give the
Canon another shot before I do anything else. He agreed.

Just to make sure everything needed is installed

Scanner Packages

sudo apt-get install sane xsane xsane-common sane-utils libsane libsane-common libsane-extras libsane-extras-common

Ref: http://askubuntu.com/questions/471758/canon-mf4770n-driver-installation-for-ubuntu-14-04

Yes everything was installed though I ran it anyway in the terminal. Skanlite still finds no devices.
I thought someone else got this printer working? Why am I having so much trouble?? this is crazy!
Simple scanner.

Canon printers can be a bit finicky sometimes. It might be a permissions problem or you may have to manually enable the pixma backend: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/sane#Enable_the_back-end

There is nothing in the config file. So do I just add it to the list? or how do I go about this?

I just checked on my system and the files are there and populated already, but I’m running Netrunner Rolling and not Standard.

Sorry to be the borer of bad news, but the version of sane in Netrunner 13.12 is to old and doesn’t support your printer/scanner, this is where your issue is. You will need to enable backports or upgrade to Netrunner 14.

I did upgrade to 14 right after I started this thread. I have been doing all of your suggestions within 14. But since the thread was started in 13.12, I just stayed here.

I should say that maybe it’s because you are on a different Linux foundation. I have had several issues with the Ubuntu side and I would change, but I have been on the Debian side for all this time and don’t have a lot of time to invest in learning another Linux foundation (or whatever you call it).

Ok… I think I’m going to put some time in to get the LTS version running with this printer. Since you say that it works on that version of Netrunner… I want to keep this printer… so I will give it a shot. But my ONLY issue with that version is then getting Netflix to run. But I will end up posting this to that version forum, should i have any problems.
