Can't log in after updates.

I am running Netrunner Desktop and have the continuous updates enabled. I applied updates either on the evening of 08/29/2017 or the morning of 08/30/2017, and after I powered it off on 08/30/2017, I have not been able to log back in to the machine. It doesn’t tell me that my password is wrong. It accepts my password, the screen turns black and acts like it is going to let me in, and then brings me back to a the login screen with a blank password field. Is there a way that I can use a Live DVD to fix or repair this?
