HDMI port doesn't work

Hello everyone.

Until yesterday i was able to connect my laptop to an HDMI cable and it worked normally. But after updating the system today, the laptop can’t recognize the external monitor anymore.

I have an old laptop that still works, so the problem is the new one.

My configuration is:
Lenovo Ideapad C340.
KDE Plasma 5.17.5
Intel Core i5-8265U
8GB RAM
Integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620

Any ideas?

Did you restart after upgrading?
Check the display settings and is it maybe adding the hdmi attached monitor as disabled?
What is the command xrandr showing you in a terminal? Is it showing the HDMI output as connected?

Display settings don’t show any HDMI options…

That’s all, there’s no HDMI information here.

In Audio and Video settings, says "The shared library was not found. Possible reasons:

  • List item an error during the last update, leaving an orphan control module.

  • List item do you have obsolete third party modules."

That is bad. So it is not even picking up the HDMI anymore.
Did the upgrade involve a new linux kernel by chance?
You could try booting the older kernel eventually to see if it works with this one.

Newer KDE Plasma versions have this removed so that is normal. As we customized the settings in systemsettings it might leave this entry there still though it is not working anymore. Nothing to worry though.

I tried kernels 5.6.0-1 and 5.6.0-2, and both have the same problem. I will reinstall the system and keep the stable repositories.

I think it’s a hardware problem. I tried other distributions and none of them worked. I will send the laptop to autorized services.

Thank you for your time.
