Immense growing of .xsession-errors

Hello,

the file .xsession-errors ist growing and growing … today it has been 32gb. After a restart the file is not emptied.

How can I prevent this file to eat all my disk-space and what is running wrong in my system that there are so many messages in this log-file.

The content is mainly of messages like this:

What does this means? And how to stop it?

The systemdplot.svg means the file is corrupt or at least qt.svg thinks it is. You can get rid of this error by disabling previews or removing the file.

The first log looks like excessive logging because of a invalid line in the Obsidian icon theme.
You can avoid it by fixing the theme or using a different theme. (fixing tip: It mentions the fixed term I would search in the icon theme directories index.theme file for the fixed type and remove it and see if it fixes the issue - Do not forget to backup the file up just in case)

In general the logging might be filling the space in your home as it logs everything running on your X-Server including Plasma and all applications. This is a default setting that granted in your case can lead to excessive logging which is not intended.
You can clean the file regulary if you don’t experience issues with applications and need a log for this.
Easist would be to executing the terminal command
echo > ~/.xsession-errors
as this command just overwrites the file without the necessity to read the file first.

If you want to disable the logging completely you can of course change Xorgs ERRFILE location to /dev/null
To do so edit /etc/X11/Xsession and replace

ERRFILE=$HOME/.xsession-errors
with
ERRFILE=/dev/null

After a restart it should not log into the ~/.xsession-errors file anymore.

Of course there are multiple other ways to deal with it. Like creating a cron job that checks the file size and clears the file after it reached a specific file size. Or just remove the head and keep a bit of the end of the file.
This is a bit more advanced and not sure if you want it. If you do please tell me and I can instruct you how to do it.

and thank you for the informations.
I’m really astonished how much errors i can find in this file. One can think the whole desktop enviroment is buggy
I try now a script executed with the shutdown.

Does that make sense?

something is really going wrong with my system. In roundabout three hours the .xsession-error-file is growing from zero to 440MB.

From analyzing the .xsession-errors you are playing kpat and that solver has a bug that logs excessively.
See this bug report: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=407854

As it is not solved yet I would suggest to deactivate the solver (“Löser” in german) under settings.
