Joining an Active Directory Domain

What is the best and most trouble proof way to make a NetRunner machine a member of an active directory domain? I want to install NetRunner at work and need to be able to use my network user Id so that I can access files that are on windoze servers on our network. I also want to be able to still do everything that I can now on my local machine, but logged on as my network user-id, such as run virtual machines, etc.

In principle, since Netrunner is based on Ubuntu, it should work, just use kate as editor, “kdesudo kate …”.
