Printer Setup

Hi
I have two printing devices.

A) An ancient HP Laserjet 6P installed just fine.

B) However, a HP OfficeJet 6600 all in one is a different matter.

a) the printer installed just fine using HPcups 3.15.11.

b) However, apparently, no scanner software was installed.

Skanlite did not find the device.

After fiddling I downloaded the appropriate driver from HP

Since I couldn’t find the “Debian” version, there is all sorts of info on KDE etc. I opted for HP to provide an “unknown”, and it was 3.16.2

It had to be installed in terminal, and did, indeed provide a driver for skanlite.

HOWEVER, GIMP does not have an option for finding a scanner, which is wellll…odd.

As a comment, GIMP looks to be nice, there are some new functions involved such as producing “buttons” etc.

sooo, dunno…

hplip 3.16.2 is currently in the testing repositoriy.
Both of those printers should be supported by hplip.
For scanners you need to make sure you have sane installed, and that you specify the command needed for the application your using for scanning (skanlite, simple-scan, xsane, etc.) in the configure > preferences > Commands advanced page of hplip, often times a reboot is required after installing the drivers and making this change for it to take effect.
