After install, I always set shortcut keys for various applications by Right clicking the menu button, Edit Applications, then in the Advanced section setting a shortcut key. For eg. Clementine Ctrl+C, Thunderbird Ctrl+T, etc…
In Kubuntu this works fine, but in Netrunner has no effect. I tried changing the key combo, but still no go.
Any suggestions?
Can you try setting global shortcuts in systemsettings for this applications and see if it works ?

Your suggestion pointed me in the right direction as to the problem.
In shortcuts & gestures / custom shortcuts. The KMenuEdit button is unticked by default.
After ticking the box, Application Shortcuts are now working.
