[SOLVED]Read DVD

Legacy Netrunner 13.12

Inserting a video DVD in the tray lead to the option of opening with VLC.
If you are OK you get the following message (translated from french) : unable to open /dev/dvd1.
Opening the structure of the DVD with Dolphin and trying to open à VOB file led to teh following message (translated from french) VLC cant read the file (input/output error).

Same thing occuring with KMplayer
libdvdread4 and libdvdnav are installed.
Any ideas ?

Confirm on three machines installed wieth netrunner 13.12. Netrunner 13.06 is able to read the same DVD.
Apparently it occured on unbuntu 13.10 :

I changed the /dev/dvd1 to /dev/sr0 without any improvement.

Solved !!!
I had to run : sudo sh install-css.sh
in the /usr/share/doc/libdvdread4 directory.
Then the needed libraries are downloaded and installed.

I have a remaing question :
Why is it neccessary to run :
sudo /usr/share/doc/libdvdread4/install-css.sh

wont it be run during the installation proccess ?

Possibly for legal issues.

That’s may be the good reason. Why not in this case include the script in a menu as for proprietary drivers.

This is something you have to ask the maintainer of the deb package.
